And Why They Are Good For Children’s Books
Willow not only writes all her books but also creates every single illustration, because clearly, she’s allergic to free time. And if that’s not enough, she designs most of her book covers too—while simultaneously being interrogated by her kids about life’s great mysteries, like “Why is the earth round?” and “Who invented TV?”
Still not impressed? Alright, picture this: she’s just spent three hours perfecting the most majestic dragon you’ve ever seen… when a tiny, sticky hand grabs her pencil and adds a bold, straight line right across its face.
And yet—somehow—in every book, she dedicates it to her children… like the tiny royalty they think they are. Yep. That’s motherhood: tears in the illustrations, coffee in the veins, and love in the chaos.
Fun Fact About Illustrations 👇🏿
Making illustrations colourful for kids is important because vibrant colours capture their attention and spark their imagination. Bright colours are visually stimulating and help hold a child’s focus, making the learning process more engaging. Colours also have emotional significance, helping to convey mood, setting, and character emotions more effectively. For young children, colourful illustrations can make abstract ideas more concrete and easy to understand. Additionally, using a variety of colours encourages creativity, helping children associate different hues with fun and learning, which can foster a deeper connection to the story or concept.

Willow creates her own illustrations for her children’s picture books. ‘Tilt House’ currently creates Willow’s book covers as well as herself.
